In the summer of 2014, a Carnegie Mellon business professor and I worked on designing a web-based platform that facilitates creating, answering, and improving multiple choice questions among the students as part of their assignments.

Precedent Study & Analysis

I began by studying two existing precedents: PeerWise and SWoRD. PeerWise is specific to creating, answering, rating, and commenting on questions. SWoRD is a system for peer reviewing essays, rating the reviews, and back-evaluating the ratings. I analyzed and diagrammed the workflow for both PeerWise and SWoRD. They influenced the ideation and refining of the workflow for our multiple choice question platform.

Mock Ups (Balsamiq)

After determining and refining the workflow, I mocked up low-fidelity screens. I used Balsamiq to quickly sketch out possibilities for each page. Through meetings with the professor, I iterated on the design and functionality of each page.

Prototype (HTML/CSS)

After the low-fidelity mock ups, I prototyped a part of the multiple choice question platform using HTML and CSS. From this screen, users can show and hide Helpful Hints, type in question, explanation, and answers, and lock and unlock answer choices.

As of fall 2014, I am no longer working on this research.
